How
to write news
like a pro - in 6 easy steps
You can't write like those newspaper
folks? YES YOU CAN! This e-book will give you a start using a
format NOT TAUGHT by journalism schools but by practicing pros...
write ANY ARTICLE on any subject
February, 2010, From Nazvi Careem
(journalist and writing coach)
Dear Writers
News writing is not rocket science. But it's worth several rockets!
Indeed, it is a $60-billion
annual industry.
Journalists are not the
only ones who can write. YOU CAN TOO!.
Journalists know that news writing is easy. They also know
that any of you can be journalists.
If you know the language, you can
write news. In fact, you can write news, news-features,
features, blogs, SEO articles and anything else the media has to offer
... and pay for.
You know there are
thousands of newspapers, magazines and websites out there. You know
they hire both full-time staff writers and freelancers. But did you
know that some freelancers earn up to
$10,000 or more every month?
Newspapers pay anywhere
between 10 cents to $1 a word. Magazines, which use mainly freelancers,
are known to pay up to $6,000 for a
2,000-word article. You, too, can earn a piece of the action. What’s the catch? The catch is you.
JUST START WRITING!
You think you are so
poor with words that you can’t string a sentence together.
You read or listen to
news reports and you feel you can never match those writers.
Even budding
journalists, you think you’re writing has stagnated and
you’ll never improve?
I know the feeling. When I started my journalism career, I thought it would take me months to master
the art of writing, if ever. I struggled in my first weeks.
Thankfully, I had a boss who cared about my future.
Within three weeks, I
was submitting two to three stories a day. If required, I could write 20 articles a day using this
system. Once the principles are ingrained in your head, it's
just a matter of practice to perfect your writing.
The principles I learned
are what separate journalists from other writers. Now, you can learn these methods and
start your own journalism career. The best part of it is that the
principles are not restricted to journalism.
You can effectively
apply these concepts to other forms of writing, whether it's SEO web content, newsletters, press
releases or submissions to article directories.
You can also control
your own career. That's what I do. One
month, I made more than $10,000, the next month, $1,000. Why?
Because I didn't feel like working for one month. And living in
Malaysia, with an amazingly low cost of living, I can do that.
You
can live a freelance life too.
In this 97-page ebook, "Great
Copy, On Time, Every Time - Secrets to How Top Pros Write News, in 6
easy steps", I will take you
by the hand and provide step-by-step guidance on how you can
write news.
This is a failsafe writing system.
Stick to it and you'll never go wrong.
You
can get a free sneak peek by entering your email and name on the top
left column and receive a free first chapter of the ebook.
What Some Editors
and Courses Don’t Teach You
This ebook is the
result of a course I ran while working with young journalists in 2003.
I was working as a copy editor in a newspaper and I would often hear an editor complain about the poor
standard of writing by our team of largely young reporters.
I decided to find out
why and would eavesdrop on conversations between the editors and cadets
when they discussed assignments. I was shocked at what I heard. My
alarm wasn't at what the editors were telling these youngsters but what they WERE NOT telling them.
These poor
youngsters were simply being confused by editors who knew if they
taught too much, those budding journalists would soon be as good as
them!
I went above
their heads and organised a one-day session for these youngsters on how
to write a simple news story ... something so basic yet seriously
lacking in their development at the time.
I whipped
together some material and by the end of the day, their eyes lit up.
One reporter said: "I've been here
for one year and I was never taught this stuff. I didn't realise just
how simple journalism writing can be."
Needless to say,
the editors weren't happy and a few weeks later, I was on my way.
The sad reality
is that hundreds of budding journos all over face the same
problems.
The
bread and butter of a journalist's or writer's craft is his or her
writing. It shouldn't fail you when you need it most.
The writing should come naturally so
a journalist can focus on the challenges that truly make the profession
rewarding - interviewing people, cultivating contacts, getting to the
bottom of a story - all the major elements that help you inform,
educate and entertain your readers.
Now, you can have the tools to make your news
writing shine, every time and on time with this easy 6-step
program.
HOW IS THIS
DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COURSES?
Unlike other courses, we will not go
near the "inverted pyramid" concept.
The "inverted-pyramid", taught mostly in universities, obviously works
because there are many journalists and writers out there who use it.
But there are probably many more who don’t.
I have been writing for two decades.
I currently freelance for London-based Reuters, having previously done
work as a freelancer for the Associated Press and Agence France-Presse.
My clients include South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and Asian Golf
Monthly magazine, based in Singapore.
In addition, I write articles, press releases and do other forms of
writing for clients and publications in UK, US, Middle East, New
Zealand and Asia. I have worked with and against some top writers from
around the world. And guess what?
... Not once have I come across the
inverted pyramid system in the work-place!
What I have is much, much better.
Now you also have a chance to learn these guidelines in a quick and
easy manner and turn your natural language skills into solid journalism
writing. You won’t find this
method in many places.
And for those whose professors or bosses insist on your using the
inverted pyramid, don't worry. They won't notice. They'll probably
learn from you.
You may ask the question: do
journalists write differently from others? Yes, they certainly
do. They are trained to get the information out in a manner that is
generally alien to how others write. They are trained to write NEWS.
This short course is not taught by journalism degree courses or other
“how to write” websites.
In fact, I recently saw a job vacancy for a Journalism Lecturer at a
British university and one requirement read: "Experience as a
journalist a plus". A PLUS!!?? Surely, that should be the main
qualification, not research experience.
You’ll only find
variations of this program taught at the world’s best newspapers
or wire services.
The program offers a format-based
style of writing that works every time. Whether you are a rookie
or a practicing journalist, you can learn to write quality articles in under 30 minutes
with this easy 6-step course.
THIS
COURSE ALLOWS JOURNALISTS TO:
- Develop the skills you already have to
write all types of genres – news, news features, features,
opinion, improving your writing and enhancing job prospects
- Format your writing
so that deadlines or writer’s block are never a problem and
editors can rely on you
- Sharpen up your
angles and writing skills so that your work is in demand and you can
tackle any topic
FOR NON-JOURNALISTS, YOU
CAN:
- Learn how to write like the top
journalists in a matter of days -- and launch a lucrative freelance
career
- Expand your career
prospects, either as a full-time journalist or freelancer and earn a
good side income
- Gain the skills to
pursue a side-career in journalism
- Write press releases
for public relations events that editors will read, enhancing your
income potential through the public relations route.
- Boost your overall
understanding of how journalism works
- Open up a whole new
world of writing opportunities offline and online
- Start your own news
outlet, either online or offline
FOR BLOGGERS:
- Make your posts stand
out by incorporating news-writing elements that grab your readers and
hold on to them
- Earn more money with
sharper stories that others would love to link to
- Spend less time
writing with a formula that guarantees quality
FOR BULK ARTICLE WRITERS:
- Learn a systematic way of
churning out article after article in minutes at a time, using just one
piece of information for each article
- Use this tested
formula to not just bash out articles, but STORIES, using sharp angles
that draw in your readers
- Promote your website
by filling it with readable, genuine articles instead of meaningless
copy filled with random keywords and keyphrases.
****************
We will show you a system that allows you to write clear, concise copy every time, no
matter how tired or emotional you are at the time.
The fact is, ANYONE can write.
Both cub reporters and senior journalists appreciate this program. The
more humble of the veteran hacks realize they need a good re-cranking
after years on the job.
The concepts in this course come from what I’ve learned on the
job meshed together with some of my own ideas.
The result is a 97-page ebook called “Great
Copy, On Time, Every Time - SECRETS to how Top Pros Write News, in 6
easy steps”.
IN THIS
eBOOK YOU WILL LEARN:
- An
amazingly simple writing formula that ALL good news outlets use and
demand from their writers
- How
to tinker with information and quotes to get the best possible NEWS
angle.
- The
importance of the intro and how to write them.
- How
to get the best out of your quotes
- How
to draw in your readers and keep them there.
- How
to structure all your information into a formulated four-layered story
that works EVERY TIME.
- How
this formula can be used for all types of stories – news, news
features, features, opinion, web content, newsletters etc, and all
types of fields – general news, business, sports etc.
This is ideal for
budding reporters, experienced writers, bulk writers or just those who
fancy contributing to newspapers, magazines or websites.

discovered I required to learn quickly a different way of writing when
I entered the realm of press release advertising and sharing my and

of how journalists assemble words. How to write like a journalist is a
valuable part of my working library and has helped me to penetrate what
seemed a daunting realm. I'm the sort of practical person who
appreciates the mechanical structure of things, and you nailed it for
me.”

This course will
give you the tools to ensure that your articles will read the way
editors want them to read. Editors
hate re-writing. If you’re first paragraph doesn’t
interest them, your article will be quickly binned.
Once
your writing is disliked by an editor, there is little chance he or she
would ever look at your copy again.
NOTE:
We are not going to guarantee that
everything you write is going to be published. Even the most
experienced and best journalists cannot guarantee that.
What
we can guarantee is that, after this course, you will be armed with the writing skills
needed to convince editors that you’ve got what it takes.
At
the end of the day, an article gets
published because of the strength of the story it tells. We can
give you the skills to use the words you already know to strengthen
your story and structure your article in a professional manner.
EVEN
IF YOU’RE AN EXPERIENCED WRITER
Here’s
a stunning revelation – many
journalists around the world today do not even know this system!!!
They may write well, they may get good stories but writing, to them,
doesn't always come easy.
This
system is a tested formula
that allows you to write your article
in 15-30 minutes, once you have all the facts that you need to
make your story complete.
The
reason many writers don’t know this formula is because the
majority of news outlets don’t teach it. They rely on editors to
groom cub reporters in their own styles.
Nothing wrong with
that, I say. After all, it is how I initially started. But this system
allows anyone to come in from the cold and write like a journalist
within a few weeks.
DON'T
WAIT TO GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH
Students
spend up to $2,000 or more on writing
courses at universities and private institutions. A four-year
course in journalism would cost you up to $8,000.
Even short, online or distance courses would set you back at least
$1,000.
What we are offering, a 97-page e-book plus three weeks of tutoring, at
your pace, costs $67.00
Clearly, $67.00 is a great price for 20 years worth of top experience.
After all, it will get you writing
faster than a three-year degree programme worth thousands of
dollars.
And guess what? More and more new and
seasoned journalists are learning this system every day and
entering the freelance writing market. Don't get left behind!
And that’s not
all.
